The joy of creation, and a love of nature define who I am. Nestled in rural Southeast Connecticut, my backyard shop has been the crucible for untold numbers of creative projects.
Mission Statement: Many furniture and kitchen design companies are simply salespeople who sell other people's inexpensive labor and cheap materials to unwitting clients. I sell my own labor, quality local materials, and my own creativity, and I do so with joy and enthusiasm! I take your ideas and turn them into reality, using my skills and experience to make sure that each project is the best it can be.
Scope and Possibility: Nearly limitless. Subjects of my work have included dining ensembles, kitchens and baths, windows and doors, sculpture, built-in cabinetry, carving, restoration and duplication of existing pieces, garden structures, and even small buildings. My work has encompassed a broad range of styles; I apply academic rigor to the study of every new style and project so that my work can be the best it possibly can.
Green: I critically examine every material source, and every manufacturing process to ensure that it has the smallest environmental footprint possible. My small shop is designed to use minimal resources in its operation; much of the waste is recycled, composted, or used to heat my space. I use locally harvested and recycled wood whenever possible, and many of my techniques are powered by my own muscles. Most importantly, selecting a local builder eliminates the massive amount of pollution created by shipping goods and materials from overseas.
Experience: I began woodworking at a very early age, and began selling hand carved wooden spoons, dovetailed boxes, and other handmade items as a young teenager. While in college I became interested in lutherie and other types of instrument building. After graduation with a degree in music, I went to work for Bergan Architectural Woodworking. I spent eight years becoming familiarized with modern production methods and the cutting edge technology used by the industry. While with the company I worked on many high-profile projects, including restoration of the Mark Twain House, the Yale University library, the Center For the Arts at Wesleyan University, the U.S. Bank Stamford offices, the Hartford Tax offices, and many others, as well as many high end residences. I also worked briefly as a fabricator for Mebel Furniture.
As a self-employed professional, my work is found in many high-end residences in the Northeast, but it has shipped as far as Scotland. My commercial work has included such projects as store furniture for the Osborne and Little company in New York, carved lettering for the Hotchkiss School, and restoration of carving in the Waterbury tax office. My reclaimed wood furniture is also featured in the Design Solutions store in New Canaan, CT.
